hacienda
There is something to get excited about in south-central Texas. In fact the buzz surrounding San Antonio’s Hacienda may signal a rebirth of young rock n’ roll -with emphasis on the “roll”- to the country’s landscape. Formed by cousins Abraham Villanueva (piano/vocals) and Dante Schwebel (guitar/vocals), together with Abraham’s brothers Jaime (drums/vocals) and Rene Villanueva (bass/vocals), this Mexican-American quartet blends a raw yet sophisticated style of pop music with harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles and Beach Boys.
lover girl
Lover Girl includes Smokey Farris and Gene Defcon and some other people I’m guessing. This song was included on Business Deal’s Top 40 Hits of 2005. Nearly 5 years later it still stands on it’s own shaky legs.
The Carrots
THE CARROTS formed with the intention of offering a fun and hip project, modernizing the legacy of girl groups from the sixties such as THE MARVELETTES, THE COOKIES and THE SUPREMES. The digital component played a major role in the story of the group: Veronica Ortuño placed an ad on myspace where she sought out people to start a group which sounded like THE RONETTES or THE CRYSTALS and this was just the start of the creation of the band in 2005. In 2009 they broke up, but did release these albums.
